Simon Week - Believe in People - will take place this year from October 4th -10th and Dundalk Simon Community will be hosting a number of events all over the North East.
We are delighted to announce that Denny has announced that they will be the main sponsor of Simon Week, the Simon Communities of Ireland’s annual seven days of action on homelessness.
This years focus - Believe in People - shows that nationally and regionaly the Simon Community's believe in the people that turn to the eight local Simon communities around the country every day, believe in the thousands of volunteers and Simon supporters, and believe that with the appropriate housing, care and support people can and do leave homelessness behind them for good. Simon Week will also remind people that homelessness is more than not having a roof over your head or a set of keys; for many it means having many related needs including physical and mental health issues, and problem drug and alcohol use.
Dundalk Simon Community has been providing services for those who are homeless or at immediate risk of becoming homeless in the North East for the past 36 years. These services include the Gatehouse Project, which provides accommodation for up to 7 rough sleepers nightly, Sunnyside House which offers emergency accommodation for up to 25 people and a day centre in Seatown House, which is the base for the settlement and administration services and is also a focal point for former residents and people who are living in Sunnyside house or the Gatehouse project and are being supported in their move to independent living. These services are provided to approximately 300 people and support an average of 35 people per year in achieving a home of their own.
